Jonny B :
My family and I are going to Canada, next year for a February vacation, one week long.
We are looking for somewhere that is within an 8 to 10 hour drive of New York City (this is crucial).
we are looking for winter sports but the most important is that we want to rent snowmobiles for the week. Not one of those places that makes you ride around in circles on a farm, somewhere that lets you ride around on trails through the forest.
Suggestions anyone?

Well for wanting to do winter sports you’d need to go farther than ten hours I’m afraid.. I live north of Lindsay [basically nobody in any city knows where this is but if you say the Kawartha lakes then they automatically know the area ha ha. It's quickly becoming the hotspot for city people and such]
So I’m about 2 1/2 north of Toronto [about 6 ish hours from Niagara Falls].
If flying was an option I would get the cheapest tickets to Barrie, Ontario. But again this winter [as was last] has been bad weathwise. Many lakes were freezing and thawing and several snowmobilers were killed. You should go father north if flying is an option [like Whistler BC or Collingwood, Ontario].
But in my area [by that I mean in a 45 minute drive from my house] you can go skiing at devil’s elbow, rent snowmobiles, etc. But again you should contact a travel agent or randomly pick citys/towns in Ontario [seems to be the closest next to Quebec for you] and see what they offer.
I know the Barrie and my area have trails cutting through towns and forests. But you need a snowmobiling license and the right gear [no matter what]. And Barrie is just beautiful, period.
Them Canadians sure know their snow, eh? Canada is basically our 51st state.
sorry no idea
There are actually many places not too far from New York City. There would be Montreal which is a gorgeous city, especially in the winter with a lot of activities going on all the time. There’s Ottawa the capital, which has the longest skating canal in the world, and its also a nice city, many ski places around and many things to do. In february there’s the Snow Festival, and they’ve got ice statues + snow slides + all kinds of fun stuff going on. Then there’s always Toronto you could go to but that’s what they call the Canadian New York City, so if you want something different i wouldn’t go around that too much. Then there’s another place called Mont-Tremblant which is a ski resort, really good skiing and a overall nice place. There’s also another city, Quebec, i think you should go there, it’s a really nice authentic city on one side but then on the other city it’s really more urbain. They have something for everyone!
Well on that note, Bon Voyage!
